چکیده

Composition dependence of Young’s modulus in Ti-V and Ti-Nb binary alloys and Sn-added ternary alloys quenched from phase region was investigated at room temperature in relation to the stability of phase. A minimum of Young’s modulus in the binary alloys appears at such a composition that athermal ! phase transformation is almost completely suppressed. Formation of isothermal ! phase by aging after quenching increases Young’s modulus. Sn addition to the binary alloys suppresses or retards ! transformation, thereby decreasing Young’s modulus. Optimization of alloy composition in Ti-Nb-Sn alloys leads to low Young’s modulus of about 40GPa. The composition dependence of Young’s modulus obtained experimentally in this study can be qualitatively explained by the theoretical discrete-variational X cluster method.

Biomedical titanium alloys with Young’s moduli close to that of cortical bone

Biomedical titanium alloys with Young's moduli close to that of cortical bone, i.e., low Young's modulus titanium alloys, are receiving extensive attentions because of their potential in preventing stress shielding, which usually leads to bone resorption and poor bone remodeling, when implants made of their alloys are used. They are generally β-type titanium alloys composed of non-toxic and all...

A New Low-Cost ¢-Type High-Strength Titanium Alloy with Lower Alloying Percentage for Spring Applications

Spring applications require materials that possess a low Young’s modulus and high strength, in addition to having a lower alloying percentage for reduced costs. In this study, a new low-cost ¢-type titanium alloy with a lower alloying percentage than conventional ¢-type alloys was developed for spring applications using [Al]eq and [Mo]eq. The alloy is located in the near-¢ region and its ¢ tran...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Biomedical Ti-29Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr Alloy under Solutionized and Aged ConditionsThis Paper was Originally Published in Japanese in J. Japan Inst. Metals 72 (2008) 960--964

The effect of oxygen content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Ti-29mass%Nb-13mass%Ta-4.6mass%Zr (TNTZ) alloy was investigated in this study. The microstructural observation of TNTZ alloys, containing 0.1–0.4mass% oxygen, subjected to solution treatment shows the presence of a single phase. With an increase in oxygen content, the hardness, tensile strength, and Young’s modu...

Electrochemical Properties of Ti-Ag Alloys for Biomedical and Dental Applications

Ti and Ti alloys have been widely applied to biomedical and dental fields and the demands for their applications have increased gradually in these fields. Ti and its alloys have been used as biomaterial because of their high corrosion resistance, low toxicity, low elastic modulus and low density. Their defects are low shear strength, low wear resistance, low weldability, low formability and low...
